Ark Quinn, Jr.

Ark Quinn, Jr., age 92, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois went to be with his Lord Jesus at 6:00 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois.

Ark was born January 4, 1925 in Cooperstown, Illinois at the home of his parents, Ark, Sr. and Rose Parke Quinn.  He married Lois Ivagene Richardson on September 26, 1948 at the Camden United Methodist Church in Camden, Illinois and she survives.   Ark and Ivagene just celebrated their 69th year of marriage.   To this union three children were born:  Michael Kent, Douglas Ark and Sandra Jean.

Ark was a devoted member of the Cooperstown Christian Church having served as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and was known to always do his best at any job that needed done.  Ark and Ivagene then attended Cornerstone Christian Church in Mt. Sterling and they contributed to purchasing the ground for building the new church. 

Ark was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the United States Army where his attained the rank of Sergeant.

Ark was a lifelong farmer on his family homestead, where he loved raising horses, Black Angus cattle and his dogs.  He also loved his old time John Deere tractors.

Ark was an avid jokester, always having something funny to say.  After Sunday school and church all the little children would come to see Ark for his peppermint candies, as he always loved to see the children smile.

He also worked as a school bus driver for approximately 30 years.  Ark enjoyed seeing all the children he carried from all the families and took special pride in making sure they got to school and home safely.  He also worked as a rural mail carrier for many years.

Ark had many loves including playing cards, ping pong, pool, softball, bowling and attending farm sales.

Survivors include his wife Ivagene Quinn of Mt. Sterling.  2 children Douglas Ark Quinn of Clayton, Illinois and Sandra Jean Walker (Chuck) of Chambersburg, Illinois.   5 grandchildren Deanne Quinn (Jeff Peuster) and Dacia Johnson (Jason) all of Clayton, Illinois, Patrick Walker (Rosie) of Buffalo, Illinois, Sarah Myers (Shawn) of Auburn, Illinois and Katelyn Walker of Quincy, Illinois also survive along with 2 nephews and 1 niece.   Ark was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first two great grandchildren.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Michael Kent Quinn and his wife Marilyn J. Humke Quinn and their unborn baby, who all tragically died together in an automobile accident on August 8, 1973.   1 sister Alice R. Smith, 2 brothers Parke and Dale Quinn and several nieces and nephews also preceded in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Matt Haberman and Pastor Dale Gadberry officiating. 

Burial will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery in Cooperstown, Illinois.   A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer Association, Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund or the Lamoine Christian Service Camp.
