Betty Foote

Betty Joann Foote, age 81, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 6:55 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

She was born November 6, 1934 in Schuyler County, Illinois the daughter of Vail and Goldie Mae Rittenhouse Crosier.  She married Jesse Smith, Jr. on November 3, 1951 at the Mt. Sterling First Christian Church.  She later married John Foote on October 11, 1985 in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2010.

Mrs. Foote was a homemaker and had also worked at the Irish House Hotel and as a cook for the Bates Restaurant both in Mt. Sterling. Earlier in life she had served as a cook in the local school cafeteria. 

She attended rural schools in both Schuyler and Brown County.

Mrs. Foote was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling and was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 Auxiliary.  Betty always enjoyed camping and was a member of the Busy Bee Campers Club.

Survivors include 3 children Darrell Smith of Versailles, Vickie Clark (George) and Randy Smith (Tami) all of Mt. Sterling.  4 stepsons Dennis Foote (Jeri) and Denver Foote (RoseMarie) all of Tucson, Arizona, Doug Foote (Dee) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and David Foote (Kelly) of Augusta, Missouri.  2 brothers Robert Crosier of Hobart, Indiana and Donald Crosier of Rushville.  4 grandchildren Chad Still of Winchester, Nicole Wachter, Staci Smith and Brad Smith all of Mt. Sterling. 8 great grandchildren also survive along with several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandsons Trent and Michael Still, 2 brothers Junior and Francis “Jink” Crosier and 3 sisters Dorothy Huggins, Pauline Doyle and Alice Cunningham. 

Per Betty’s request cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in the Hersman Cemetery with Rev. Aaron Foster officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
