Dianna Lynn “Cookie” Garrett, age 63, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 7:17 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.
She was born August 4, 1953 in Pittsfield, Illinois the daughter of William Sanford and Frieda Louise Goldman Miller. She married William J. Garrett on November 27, 1974 at the Nazarene Church in Griggsville, Illinois and he survives.
Dianna was the custodian for the Brown County Elementary School for the last 17 years, where she also served as an adopted grandmother to several of the area children. She had also worked for Excel in Beardstown and the Nature House in Griggsville.
She graduated from Griggsville High School with the class of 1971.
Dianna always enjoyed raising flowers and took special pride in mowing and taking care of her yard. She also enjoyed collecting cardinal figurines and ornaments and decorating her home for every holiday. Dianna always loved the time spent with her family especially baking cookies with her grandkids.
Survivors include her husband William “Bill” Garrett of Mt. Sterling. 3 children William Cory Garrett (Mindy) of Rushville, Jessica Davis (Trint) of Mt. Sterling and Colt Lee Garrett of Mt. Sterling. 5 grandchildren Kelsy, Katelyn, Micheala, Logan and Juna. 4 brothers James S. “Sonny” Miller (Teresa) of Hannibal, Missouri, Robert Miller (Chris) of Sheffeld Village, Ohio, John David Miller of Quincy and Thomas R. Miller (Susan) of Griggsville. 3 sisters Judith Ann Smith of Kinderhook, Nancy Lee Miller of Quincy and Linda Sue Shaffer of Roodhouse also survive along with several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog “Gizzy”.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Haberman officiating.
Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery south of Griggsville.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Brown County Elementary School.
