Iona Phillips

Iona Mae Greiwe Wilkerson Phillips, age 86, of Mt. Sterling, passed away at 5:55 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.

She was born October 14, 1930 in Elkhorn Township of Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Rollie Daniel and Alta Leola Zimmerman Greiwe.  She married Horace Wilkerson on October 8, 1950 in Versailles, Illinois and to this union four children David, Donald, Gary and Cathy were born.   She later married Maurice Robert Phillips on September 26, 1980 in Mt. Sterling.

Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker and also worked for the Mt. Sterling Public Library and served a realtor for several years.

She attended Morrellville School in Brown County and graduated from Mt. Sterling High School.

Iona was a member of the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church and always enjoyed reading, gardening and raising flowers.

Survivors include 4 children David Wilkerson of Rushville, Illinois, Donald Wilkerson of Mt. Sterling, Gary Wilkerson (Cindy) of Versailles and Cathy Heckel (Jon) of Mt. Sterling.  1 sister Linda Cull of Baylis, Illinois.  11 grandchildren Jason Reische (Amanda) of Mt. Sterling, Kurt Reische (Erica) of Mt. Sterling, Brooke Hedden (Brian) of Mt. Sterling, Lindsay Tobolik (Kyle) of Chicago, Michele Wilkerson of Quincy, Perry Wilkerson (Chelsea) of Mt. Sterling, Kaitlin Wilkerson (Landon) of Portland Oregon, Shon Mountain (Britnee), Brant Mountain (Missy),  Kyle Mountain (Tracy) all of Mt. Sterling and Lance Mountain of Griggsville. 14 great grandchildren Addison and Isaac Hedden, Hayden, Grayson and Zoie Reische, Wyatt, Presley and Gracie Wilkerson, Lola Tobolik, Caleigh Phillips, Caidynce Ham, Charleigh, Kya and Rosey Mountain also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 grandson in infancy and 1 sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Daryl Vermillion officiating.

Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery in Hersman, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Per Iona’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church or Culbertson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
