James G. “Jim” Wort, age 82, of Mt. Sterling passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Illinois.
He was born February 7, 1934 in Cooperstown Township in Brown County, Illinois the son Harry Francis and Marie F. Volk Wort. He married Norma M. Koch on January 16, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and she survives.
Jim was a farmer and had also been employed by Prairie Farms Creamery in Mt. Sterling, United Facilities in Peoria and Bohn Aluminum and Brass in Beardstown. He later owned and operated Wort Shell Service Station in Mt. Sterling for several years and then worked for both Timewell Tile and Dot Foods until retiring in 2010.
Mr. Wort graduated from St. Mary’s Academy with the class of 1952 and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church both in Mt. Sterling. Jim was an avid NASCAR and Chicago Cubs fan. He always enjoyed camping, and he truly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in their many sporting events. Jim was proud to have completed the state quarter sets for all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Norma Wort of Mt. Sterling. 6 children Steve Wort (Nancy) of Mt. Sterling, Debi Yandell (Steve) of Peoria, Kevin Wort (Darcey) of Rushville, Bruce Wort (Loretta) of Mt. Sterling, Shelly Seiver (Mark) of Hanna City and Sue Boehler (Gerry) of Camp Point. 1 brother Robert L. Wort (Jane) of Mt. Sterling. 1 sister Shirley Venvertloh (Bill) of Quincy. 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister Marilyn Mitchell.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. A prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer, St. Mary’s School, Holy Family Catholic Church or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
