Lyle Thomas “Doug” Dunn, age 82, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 3:45 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at Adams Point Assisted Living in Quincy, Illinois.

He was born June 24, 1935 in Schuyler County, Illinois the son of Lawrence and Edna Irene Anderson Dunn.  He married Margaret Louise “Margie” Wegs on October 31, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2013. 

Mr. Dunn was a farmer and had also worked as a foreman for the Illinois Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance in Brown County for several years.

He attended rural Brown County schools.

Mr. Dunn served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1957.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.

Doug loved to go to the gambling boat, traveling, raising his dogs and solving all the world’s problems around the coffee table with his friends, but his greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include one son Doug Dunn (Dawn) of Mt. Sterling.  3 granddaughters Danielle Flesner (Brandon) of Clayton, Meghan Scheer (Terry) of Mt. Sterling and Lauren Dunn of Mt. Sterling.  Several nieces and nephews also survive along with his friend and caregiver, Marcia Kendrick of Versailles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers Cecil, Albert, Danny and Robert Dunn.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Steve Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church or Unity Point at Home Hospice.
