Mary Manley

Mary Ella Balzer Manley, age 91, of Fishhook, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Illinois.

She was born February 15, 1926 in Adams County, Illinois the daughter of George and Elsie Jackson Balzer.  She married Harry R. Manley on December 3, 1946 in Quincy, Illinois and he survives.

Mrs. Manley was a homemaker and had also served as a teacher of several rural Adams and Pike County schools. 

She attended Highland School in Adams County, graduated from Liberty High School and then attended Western Illinois Teacher’s College in Macomb, Illinois.

Mrs. Manley attended the Morrellville Community Church in Brown County.  She was a member of the Pike County Home Extension and volunteered for several years for the American Heart Association.

Survivors include her husband, Harry R. Manley of Fishhook, Illinois.  3 sons Steve Manley (Helen) of Bedford, Indiana, Rodney Manley (Judy) of St. Louis, Missouri and Len Manley (Carolyn) of Birmingham, Alabama.  6 grandchildren Brenda Weitbrecht (Brian), John Manley (Janelle), Andrew Manley (Susanna), Jared Manley (Kirsten), Jessica Manley and Misty Manley (Fiancée, Johnny Amizich).  11 great grandchildren also survive along with 2 nephews Donald Gallaher and Virgil McDowell, Jr and 2 nieces Lois Houston and Barbara Reese.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother Lilburn Balzer, 4 sisters Fern Gallaher, Cleo Whitaker and 2 in infancy and 2 grandchildren in infancy Hannah and Luke Manley.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.

Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery near Fishhook, Illinois.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Gideon’s International.
