Phyllis Irene Hamilton, age 73, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 9:41 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016 at her residence.

She was born August 23, 1943 in rural Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Everett and Irene Frost Wainman.  She married Charles Hamilton on December 12, 1964 in Versailles, and he survives.

Mrs. Hamilton was a homemaker and also assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm. Earlier in life Phyllis had worked as a beautician.   She attended Brown County schools and graduated from Flamingo Beauty College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Phyllis was a member of the Versailles Christian Church.  She was a former member of the Idelle Rebekah Lodge in Versailles and had served as an election judge for several years.  Phyllis was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys fan.  She also enjoyed solving the world’s problems with her friends around the coffee table and wintering in Arizona with her husband and “Arizona family”.  Phyllis truly loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Survivors include her husband Charles Hamilton of Versailles.  3 children Sheri Huels (Daniel) of Thonotosassa, Florida, Bob Hamilton of Versailles, Illinois and Mike Hamilton of Jacksonville, Illinois.  7 grandchildren Josh Hamilton, Jordan and Janson Shults and Clint, Brad, Tommy and Ty Hamilton.  5 great grandchildren Bryson, Miley, Gage, Logan and Jaxson.  1 brother Frank “Butch” Wainman (Sharon) of Jacksonville.  1 sister Deane Flynn (Jim) of North Pekin also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 grandson Cayden Huels and 3 sisters Norma Wainman, JoAnne Van Hyning and Carol Prather.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Gary Hinegardner officiating.

Burial will be in the Versailles West Side Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer.
