Alice Mae Bowen, age 80, of Hersman, Illinois passed away at 8:13 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.
She was born March 29, 1937 in Peru, Illinois the daughter of Elva and Kathryn A. Kline King. She married Norman Lee “Buster” Bowen on July 9, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling and he survives.
Alice served as custodian for Brown County Community Unit School District #1 for over 30 years, retiring in June of 2002.
She attended Bell School in Brown County and graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1955.
Alice was an avid Brown County Hornet Football fan and was a member of the Sting Squad. She always enjoyed working in her yard, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and especially enjoyed preparing Sunday dinner for them.
Survivors include her husband Norman L. “Buster” Bowen of Hersman. 5 children Connie McCleery (Dwight) of Pittsfield, Gary Bowen (Janelle) of Hersman, Karen Ward (Jim), Donna Bemis (Scott) and Joe Bowen (Kim) all of Mt. Sterling. 1 brother Richard King (Geri) of Arizona. 2 sisters Rose Briggs (Ronnie) and Dorothy Embree (Russell) all of Mt. Sterling. 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 great grandson Aden Lovell in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Aaron Foster officiating.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Sting Squad or the Mt. Sterling First Baptist Church.
