Donald Johnnie Kallenbach, age 87, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 4:28 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2020 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.
He was born the son of John Samuel and Flora Edna Griewe Kallenbach on July 10, 1932 at the family farm in Brown County, where he lived his entire life. He married Kathryn Yvonne Keith on November 20, 1955 in Versailles, Illinois and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2011.
Donald with a lifelong Brown County farmer. He attended Washington School in rural Brown County and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
Mr. Kallenbach served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955.
He was also a member of the Brown County Farm Bureau, the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 and served on the board for the Hebron Cemetery for many years. Don loved owning restored tractors and enjoyed entering them in the local parades. He also enjoyed coon hunting, catfishing, watching westerns and RFD television and later in life he truly loved playing uno and bingo.
Survivors include 3 children Jon Kallenbach (Patty) of Versailles, Illinois, Sue DeRose (David) of Lake Villa, Illinois and Penny Hendricks (Craig Mountain) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 6 grandchildren Jason Kallenbach, Justin Kallenbach (Tammy), Adam DeRose, Brooke DeRose, Jacob Hendricks (Emma) and Matthew Hendricks. 4 great grandchildren Austin and Lexi Kallenbach, Carson Bentz and Marley Hendricks also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son-in-law Dick Hendricks, 2 brothers Wilbur Kallenbach and Virgil Kallenbach (surviving wife, Joan) and 1 sister Dorothy Frost.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Mark Dickerson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling. A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care Activity Fund or the Versailles Fall Festival.
