Dorothy Ratcliff

Dorothy Berniece Ratcliff, age 95, was called home to be one of God’s angels, on May 20, 2019 at 5:30 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Quincy, Illinois.

Born June 17, 1923 in Jacksonville, Illinois the second child of 11, and daughter of Floyd and Katheryn Wilson-Angelo.  She has resided in Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Quincy, Illinois for the last couple of years.  Dorothy married Oliver Saylor on October 20, 1938 and they divorced in 1967.  She married Ralph Woodworth on November 9, 1968 until his death in August, 1990.  She married her third husband Lyle Ratcliff in May, 1992 until his death in January, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by 3 of her children, Jean, Ronnie and Steve.   As well as her parents and many of her siblings, Millie Triplett, Elsie Leatherman, Floy Berry, George Angelo, Mary Jane Sweet, Shirley Cook, Ruth Simpson and Gwendolyn Leatherman. 

She is survived by one sister, Susie Buttrum and one brother Ralph Angelo both of Austin, Texas and her youngest daughter, Rena Belisle (Ron) of Goodyear, Arizona.  From Dorothy’s four children she has 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren plus a multitude of nieces and nephews.

In her lifetime Dorothy held many jobs; as an aide in Jacksonville State Hospital, waitress, baked pies for a restaurant, worked in a bank, worked at Meadow Gold Dairy, worked at Olsen’s Cleaners, as well as ironed and cleaned houses for various people. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Howes Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
