Edward Viar

Edward Lee Viar, age 87, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois passed away at 7:35 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born April 1, 1931 in Adams County, Illinois the son of Lloyd Alonza and Geraldine Grunewald Viar.  He married Rita Henrietta Ebbing on April 22, 1950 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 4, 2011.

Mr. Viar was a lifelong farmer and also worked for Packaging Corp, Titan Wheel and Springlake Country Club all in Quincy.

Mr. Viar was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Army.

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and more recently attended St. Dominic Catholic Church in Quincy.  Edward always enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include 2 daughters Teresa Mowen (Gene) of Camp Point, Illinois and Gail Erke of Jefferson City, Missouri.  1 granddaughter Terra Ann Erke of Jefferson City, Missouri.  1 great granddaughter Hailey Erke.  1 sister Faunda Dreyer of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Farris Viar, 2 sisters Mae Bowen and Shirley Richardson and 5 siblings in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.   A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post # 374 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
