Gerald Goudschaal

March 12, 1939 ~ May 29, 2018 (age 79)


Gerald George Goudschaal, age 79, of rural Clayton, Illinois was pronounced deceased at 4:32 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at his residence.

He was born March 12, 1939 in Pea Ridge Township in Brown County the son of Albert “Mack” and Edith Gerdes Goudschaal.  He married Janet Kunkel on November 20, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling and she survives.

Mr. Goudschaal was a lifelong Brown County farmer.  He attended Poe School, Timewell Grade School and graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1957.

Mr. Goudschaal served his country in the United States Army Reserves for several years.

Gerald was a member of and baptized in the Poe Baptist Church in Pea Ridge Township.  He served as the Pea Ridge Township Supervisor and had also served on the Knight Cemetery Board for several years.  Gerald loved bowling, fishing, hunting and anything that involved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Janet Goudschaal of rural Clayton.  3 children Duane Goudschaal of Mt. Sterling, Doug Goudschaal (Pam) of rural Clayton and Lisa Brierton (Mike) of Mt. Sterling.  5 grandchildren Leah Benedict (Camron) of Ashland, Missouri, Nathan Goudschaal (Christi) and Ryan Goudschaal all of rural Clayton and Kaytlyn Brierton and Zacary Brierton both of Mt. Sterling.  1 brother Merle Goudschaal (Connie) of rural Clayton.  1 sister Carol Bordenkircher (Richard) of Rolling Meadows, Illinois also survives along with several nieces, nephews and numerous members of his country family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Sherry Goudschaal.

Per his request cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the Knight Cemetery in Pea Ridge Township in Brown County with Pastor Dick Silver officiating.  Military services will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.  

Memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
