Joseph William Reich, age 86, a resident of Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling and formerly of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the nursing home.
He was born December 7, 1931 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Marshall J. and Wilma Chamberlain Reich. He married Linda J. Steinberg in 1960 in Granite City, Illinois and she preceded him in death on September 22, 1996.
Mr. Reich was a lifelong Brown County farmer and also owned Joseph Reich Trucking in Versailles for over 50 years.
He attended Brown County schools and graduated from Mt. Sterling High School. Joe then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.
Mr. Reich was a member of Midwest Trucking Association for over 45 years and was also a member of Hardin Lodge #44 A.F.& A.M. Joe truly loved the time spent mowing and working on his farm.
Survivors include 4 children Lee Reich (Cindy) of Mt. Sterling, Rick Reich (Mary) of Versailles, Steve Reich (Shelli) of Mt. Sterling and Doug Reich of Versailles. 12 grandchildren Chris and Scott Reich, Nichole Croxton, Erik, Ashley, Chloe and Sam Reich, Bridget Kennington, Landon and Luci Reich and Michael and Morgan Reich. 6 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters Mary M. Clark, Jean Cisco and Betty Krupps and his longtime friend and companion, Bessie Jane Vose.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Haberman officiating.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Hersman Cemetery Association.
