John Root

John Thomas Root, age 79, of Rushville and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 5:53 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

He was born September 4, 1940 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois the son of John Willard and Alice McHatton Root. 

John worked for the railroad in Chicago, Illinois for several years.   He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy both in Mt. Sterling.

Survivors include 1 aunt Judy Hibbs of Rushville.  1 nephew also survives along with several cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother James Root. 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2019 in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Monday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Catholic Church.
