Joseph F Geisler, 70, of Mt Sterling achieved his life-long purpose to be with his Savior early April 14, 2018. Joe had been under the outstanding care and love of Mill Creek in Springfield while surrounded by his Family. A lifelong farmer, Joe believed in planting seeds, but the seeds that he planted with most conviction were those of his faith and love in Jesus Christ. He shared that life-long planting season with his wife, Sheryl, who has awaited his Homecoming since July 18, 2017.
Joe and Sheryl, have three children – Philip (Erin) Krupps of Quincy, IL, Seth Geisler of Mt Sterling, IL, and Katie Geisler of Springfield, IL, and blessed with two grandchildren, Crew and Auley. Joe was raised with a strong work ethic from his father, Raymond, and a saint’s heart from his mother, Bette, who both preceded him Home. He is survived by his siblings – Joan (William) Ray, Dan (Jo) Geisler, David (Theresa) Geisler, Linda (Donnie) Howard, Sue (Rodney) Flynn, and Peggy (Lyndall) Pyle. Joe also loved Sheryl’s family with brother-in-laws Kevin (Mardana) Beatty of Rochester, IL and Bill (Debbie) Beatty of Springfield, IL, but just before his passing his Father-In-Law, David Beatty preceded him Home while Mother-In-Law, Wilma Beatty remained constant in her strength and love for her Son-In-Law and his family.
His children truly extended far beyond his own three with nieces and nephews that number strong and cover the Country, while also those he encountered through TEC (Teens Encounter Christ), Holy Family Youth Group, Catholic Heart Work Camp, and the teammates & friends of Philip, Seth, and Katie became permanent to his heart as well, part of his daily prayers, and a certain “I love you,” at any encounter with Papa Joe. He loved not only time with his family, but traveling to every game, event, or opportunity to be with them from Quincy to Alaska. He loved the opportunity to travel all that he could with none greater than a pilgrimage to Rome, savoring every moment, and yet found no greater peace then at home on their farm in Mt Sterling.
Even though a man of massive stature, for many years, he and Sheryl had taken up their own crosses with beauty and humility knowing the results of their race. Joe, as a farmer, knew that the seeds planted needed attention, cultivation, and harvest. The beauty of his passing is that he was ready for his own harvest, now forever seeds to continue plating faith and love.
