Richard Lee Jackson, age 84, of Mt. Sterling, passed away at 3:44 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.
He was born July 16, 1934 in La Harpe, Illinois the son of Omar Andrew and Cora Margaret Greenleaf Jackson. He married Nettie Charlene Jobe on March 12, 1958 at the Chambersburg Christian Church and she survives.
Mr. Jackson had worked for Mt. Sterling Implement, as a mechanic, for 40 years, retiring in 1999. He also owned and operated Jackson Gulf Service Station in Mt. Sterling for several years.
Lee attended Hancock and Pike County Schools.
Mr. Jackson served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until 1959.
Lee attended both the Chambersburg Christian Church and the Mt. Sterling Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post # 374. He always enjoyed attending flea markets and playing bingo.
Survivors include his wife Nettie Jackson of Mt. Sterling. 4 children Donna Lerch of Jacksonville, Andy Jackson of Clayton, Mary Bingham of Redding, California and Donald Jackson of Versailles.
2 sisters Virginia Mae Smith of Clarksville, Missouri and Joann Hamilton of Sun City, Arizona. 14 grandchildren and 17 great children also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Keith and Vernon Jackson and 1 great great grandson Brayden Helm in infancy.
Cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 in the Hersman Cemetery with Pastor Matt Haberman officiating.
Military services will be conducted by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. There will be no visitation.
