Mary Shields

Mary Grace Shields, age 100, of rural Timewell, Illinois passed away at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born March 1, 1918 in Adams County, Illinois the daughter of Ray and Marie Love Adair.  She married Glenn Shields on September 28, 1941 and he preceded her in death in July of 1986.

Mrs. Shields was a homemaker and earlier in life she worked as a beautician.  Mary also served as a vocalist for several weddings and funerals. 

She attended Clayton Schools and graduated from Clayton High School.  Mary also attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri.

Mrs. Shields was a member of the Mt. Sterling Presbyterian Church of Christ.  
Mary always loved shopping at second hand stores, putting together jigsaw puzzles and she especially enjoyed working at her church rummage sale.

Survivor include 2 children Elizabeth “Bette” Pelham (Ronald) of Baylis, Illinois and Robert “Bob” Shields of Timewell, Illinois.  2 grandchildren Lester “Lee” Pelham of Baylis, Illinois and Shannon M. Pelham of Springfield also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister Ruth Lung.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 in the Mounds Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois with Rev. Richard Young officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.  

Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling Presbyterian Church of Christ.
