Richard Lee “Dick” Parker, age 79, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and formerly of Taylorville, Illinois passed away at 9:45 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2018 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.
He was born November 28, 1938 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois the son of Arthur Lee “Dick” and Mary Catherine Ashbaker Parker. He married Janet Sue Fry on January 14, 1961 in Cooperstown, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. Parker was a lineman for CIPS for 30 years, retiring in July of 1998.
He attended St. Mary’s School in Mt. Sterling.
Mr. Parker served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 until 1961.
Dick always loved riding his motorcycles and working in his garage.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Sue Parker of Mt. Sterling. 2 children Angie Hester (Rob) of Mt. Sterling and Jeff Parker (Sue) of Taylorville, Illinois. 4 grandchildren Jade, Ciera, Summer and Talan. 2 great grandchildren Drew and Maddax. 2 sisters Paulina McKeown of Pekin and Joyce Quincy (Gary) of Mt. Sterling. 1 sister-in-law Jutta Parker of Pekin also survives along with several nieces and nephews and his dog, Hallie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter Lisa Stuber, 1 brother Cletus “Tom” Parker, 1 brother-in-law John McKeown and a nephew Sam Dantone.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Steve Surratt officiating. A military service will be conducted at the funeral home by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Culbertson Memorial Hospital Foundation or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
