Richard Ernest “Rick” Fluckey, age 48, of Hammond, Oregon and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 5:22 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon following a brief illness. Rick, the son of Martha Henrick Fluckey and the late Ernest Fluckey, Jr., was born September 7, 1969 in Carbondale, Illinois. He married Lori Larsen on August 14, 2014.
Rick attended St. Mary School in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Brown County High School, Fergus High School in Lewistown, Montana and graduated from Bonita High School in Laverne, California. While in high school, he received several honors as a basketball player. He attended the University of Texas, Ventura College and New Mexico State University where he was a member of the 1990 Conference Championship Aggies basketball team.
Over the years, Rick held a variety of positions in the auto industry. He also sang and played guitar in local bands in Bakersfield, California.
In addition to his family, Rick’s greatest joys were composing music, singing and playing the guitar. He maintained communication with many friends throughout the years and is fondly remembered for his ability to ‘make a short story long’.
Survivors include his wife, Lori Larsen Fluckey of Hammond, Oregon, son Dylan Fluckey of Los Angeles, California, former spouse Jana Marquez of Bakersfield, California, mother Martha Fluckey of Mt. Sterling; brothers Timothy (Allison) of Sierra Madre, California, Daniel (Alma) of Lancaster, California and Douglas Fluckey of Mt. Sterling; step-children Eric, Kristina, Sarah and Alex Oxford; nephews Abbott, Aaron and Mason Fluckey and niece Madeline Fluckey. He is also survived by step-grandmother Betty Fluckey and several step-grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Ernest Fluckey, Jr., and grandparents Gelasius and Margery Henrick, Ernest Fluckey and Betty Cisco.
Cremation has been accorded and graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School or the charity of the donor’s choice and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
