Thomas Commons

 Thomas D. Commons, of West Point, Illinois died at home on April 20, 2019 at the age of 78 after a long battle with Parkinson’s.  Father of Kevin Butler of Mt. Sterling and Marla Commons (Kevin Southard) of Chicago, grandfather to Parker and Rowan Southard and partner to Susan Matson of West Point. 

Tom loved playing pool, darts, baseball and more than anything, his dogs.  He was a lifelong Cubs fan, which was always heartache except in 2016 when he was gob smacked that they won the World Series. He will be most remembered for his stubbornness, his patriotism and his career service to the US Navy where as Chief Petty Officer he served his country for 20 years.

 Friends and family whose lives Tom touched are invited to the graveside service at the Ripley Cemetery in Ripley, Illinois on Friday, April 26th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to 2 X 4’s For Hope, which builds homes for Veterans, and may be sent to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Ave., Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
