Violet Lewis

Violet Rozetta Lewis, age 77, of Rushville, Illinois passed away at 10:41 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

She was born February 6, 1941 in Scott County, Illinois the daughter of Loren and Fern Phillips Ballenger.  She married Gerald Eugene Lewis on January 2, 1960 in Chambersburg, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1996.

Mrs. Lewis worked in the laundry department at Snyder’s Vaughn Haven Nursing Home in Rushville for several years.  Violet had also worked at Tate Cheese in Valley City, Illinois.   She attended Chambersburg, Illinois schools and was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church.

Mrs. Lewis always enjoyed playing bingo and scratch off lottery tickets, but her greatest joy was camping with her family. 

Survivors include 2 children Connie Newenham (Mike) and Robert Eugene Lewis (Janet Kay) all of Rushville, Illinois.  1 sister Eva Mae Lewis (Sam) of Mt. Sterling.  6 grandchildren Chad, Cory, Casey and Curtis Lewis and Nikki Newenham and Samantha Newenham (Johnathan).  1 great granddaughter McKinlee Kay Lewis also survives along with several nieces and nephews including a special niece Tammy Lewis and a special nephew Mark Lewis. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters Dorothy Ballenger and Selma Wagner.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Hersman Cemetery with Pastor Jim Dain officiating. 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
