Von Steven Roate, age 67, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 3:07 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born April 5, 1951 in Versailles Township in Brown County the son of Randall and Frances Steiger Roate. He married Jeannie McGlasson and to this union 2 daughters were born. He later married Luzviminda Taton on February 6, 2000 and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2011.
Mr. Roate was a lifelong farmer and had also owned and operated Roate Bulldozing for several years. He attended Versailles Schools and was a member of LaGrange Chapel in Brown County. Von always enjoyed welding and hunting.
Survivors include 2 daughters Shawna Orman (Brian Donalson) of Nashville, Tennessee and Dee Dee Roate (Rex Kindhart) of Versailles, Illinois. 4 grandchildren Victoria Orman and Desmond, Naomi and D’Andrew Donalson. 1 brother David Roate of Versailles. 3 sisters Faye Hendricks of Rushville, Martha Thompson of Weldon and Cammy Burton of Jacksonville also survive along with several nieces and nephews, including an honorary son and nephew Sean Roate and great niece Holley Roate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Charles, Ellis and Lowell “Tom” Roate and 2 sisters Mary Grainger and Winona Crooks.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Quincy Hospitality House or the animal shelter of your choice.
