Wretha Parker

Wretha Irene Parker, age 85, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.

She was born December 20, 1932 in Ray, Illinois the daughter of Rollo and Ruby Swisher Sipes.  She married Frederic Willard Parker on August 6, 1983 at the Mt. Sterling First Christian Church and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2017. 

Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and had also worked for Modern Manor Nursing Home and the Tastee Treat both in Mt. Sterling for several years.

She attended Bosworth, Missouri schools. 

Mrs. Parker was a devoted member of the Mt. Sterling First Baptist Church.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and always enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening and fishing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include 7 children Janet Tatum (Ron) of Camp Point, Illinois, Jerry Cowick of Mt. Sterling, Peggy Trone (Roger) of Rushville, Illinois, Larry Cowick (Janet) of Meredosia, Illinois, Terry Cowick of Mt. Sterling, Karen DeMoss (Gary) of Clayton, Illinois and Diana Weyhenmeyer (Chuck) of Springfield, Illinois.  1 sister Nelda Bower of Decatur, Illinois.  19 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter Joy Lynn Cowick, 2 grandchildren Brian Lee Cooley and Kyle Evan DeMoss and 2 brothers Vern and Gene Sipes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the Mt. Sterling First Baptist Church with Rev. Aaron Foster officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.   Friends may also call one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling First Baptist Church.
