Barbara Davenport

Barbara Jean Davenport, age 85, of Mt.Sterling, Illinois passed away at 11:41 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at her residence.

She was born September 12, 1938 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of James Coe “Lefty” and Devorah Louise Hall Kauffman.  She married Gerald Emmitt Davenport on June 7, 1959 at the Versailles Christian Church and he survives.  

Barbara worked as an administrative assistant for the National City Bank in Springfield for several years. 

She graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1956. 

Mrs. Davenport was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling.  Barbara always enjoyed being outdoors and raising her flowers. 

Survivors include her husband Gerald Davenport of Mt. Sterling, Illinois.  2 daughters Pam Hamilton (Anthony) and Diane Tinsley (Fred) all of Springfield, Illinois.  1 sister Marilee Waugh of Versailles, Illinois.  4 grandchildren Payton Guinan, Joshua Hamilton, Emily Hamilton and Jordan Guinan also survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling with Daryl Vermillion officiating.  Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service on her obituary page of the funeral home website hendrickerfuneralhome.com.    

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the church. 

Cremation will be accorded following the services and private burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Versailles West Side Cemetery.  

Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
