Clara Jane Hanks

Clara Jane Hanks, age 90, of rural Versailles, Illinois passed away at 6:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020 at her residence.  

She was born March 23, 1930 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Charles Garland and Hettie Elizabeth Davis Thomas.  She married Harvey L. Still on August 2, 1947 in Brown County, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 27, 1970.  She later married Herbert Hanks on October 19, 1973 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2007.  

Clara Jane was a homemaker and assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm.  

She attended Council School in Brown County and was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church. 

Survivors include 2 sons Gary Still (Kay) of Clayton, Illinois and John Still (Kathy) of Versailles, Illinois.  2 step children Terri Brauer of St. Louis, Missouri and Sandra Bullard (Harold) of Rushville, Illinois.  1 sister Loretta Hall of Mt. Sterling.  6 grandchildren Sherri Nordsiek (Gary) of Arenzille, Illinois, Kevin Still of Alexander, Illinois, Amanda Still of Winchester, Illinois, Chad Still (Shianna) of Alsey, Illinois, Holly Strohbeck (Chris) of Springfield, Illinois and Jesse Still of Versailles, Illinois.  4 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandsons Trent and Michael Still and 1 brother Everette Thomas. 

Private graveside services will be held in the Hersman Cemetery.  

There will be no visitation. 

Memorials are suggested to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice and may be left or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
