Eldon Duane Lashbrook, age 82, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois went to rest with the Lord at 6:38 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Illinois Veterans Home Hammond Hall in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born May 14, 1939 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Elvis Leo and Rebecca Irene Kunkel Lashbrook. He married Gladys Marie Welty on September 12, 1964 in Rushville, Illinois and she survives.
Eldon graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1958. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 until 1962 and was a member of the Mt.Sterling American Legion Post # 374. He was also a member of the Crossing Church in Mt. Sterling.
Eldon was a man of many talents who was known to have the ability to fix just about anything. Over the years he worked as a farmer, mechanic, police officer and a truck driver. He also enjoyed hunting, repairing engines, raising orchids and watching and participating in his grandkids activities. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife Gladys. A son Steven (Beckie) Lashbrook of Versailles, Illinois. 3 daughters Felicia (Brian) Dittmer of Payson, Illinois, Tabitha (Lowell) Haschemeyer of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Veronica (Jason) Williams of Rushville, Illinois. 10 grandchildren Rebekah Kindhart, Jonathan (Katie) Haschemeyer, Brandi (Ed) Spoonmore, Alex (Dany) Kindhart, Brian Lashbrook, Gabe (Allison) Williams, Grace Haschemeyer, Levi Dittmer, Ella Williams and Neal Dittmer. 6 great grandchildren Aisleigh Myers, Elizabeth and Jackson Haschemeyer, Killian and Kaidance Spoonmore and Lillian Williams. Brothers and Sisters-in-law Fran Lashbrook, Millie McClelland, Roy (Janet R.) Welty and Luther (Janet S.) Welty also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Maxine (Ted) Gilbert and Mary (Charles) Buxton, 2 brothers Donald Lashbrook and Elvis Lashbrook in infancy and 1 brother-in-law Donald McClelland.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Charla Meyers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Benville Cemetery. A military service will be conducted at the graveside.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
The State of Illinois has mandated that masks are required for those attending the visitation and services.
