Ellen Rose Ashbaker, age 78, of Golden, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling passed away at 2:32 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Illinois.
She was born February 20, 1942 in Kellerville, Illinois the daughter of Otis David and Violet Marie Clapp Rigg. She married Harry Lee Ashbaker on May 17, 1962 at the Naval Air Station Base in Pensacola, Florida and he survives.
Mrs. Ashbaker was a homemaker and had also worked as a Dietary Manager for Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling for several years. She graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1960. Mrs. Ashbaker was of the Baptist Faith. Ellen was known as a hard worker and always enjoyed reading and solving puzzles but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband Harry Ashbaker of Golden, Illinois. 3 children Tom Ashbaker (Stacy) of West Plains, Missouri, Dawn Clark of Hannibal, MIssouri and Heather Miller (Bob) of Golden, Illinois. 4 brothers John Rigg of Camp Point, Illinois, David Rigg of Arkansas, Jim Rigg of Greenfield, Illinois and Lester Rigg of Michigan. 1 sister Willa Courier of Jacksonville, Illinois. 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survives along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers James Otis, Wendell, Melvin, Albert and Chester Rigg and 3 sisters Alice Henninger, Mary Henninger and Edith Jobe.
We know that Ellen deserves a beautiful tribute and understand that under normal circumstances many friends would love to attend. But sadly due to the current health situation and under the direction of the local health department, the services are to be conducted with only immediate family members in attendance.

Burial of the cremated remains will follow in Mounds Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois.
We also encourage the community to leave a condolence or remembrance on the website for the family.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Brown County Against Cancer and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
