Gerald Lee “Jerry” Gordley, age 87, of Chambersburg, Illinois passed away at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born July 6, 1934 in Chambersburg, Illinois the son of Cleo Brockman and Margaret Ione Irving Gordley. He married Margaret Louise Downey on July 19, 1953 at the Chambersburg Christian Church and she survives.
Mr. Gordley worked for National Starch and Chemical Company in Meredosia for 42 years, retiring in 1995 and he was also engaged in farming.
Jerry graduated from Chambersburg High School with the class of 1952 and then attended Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb, Illinois.
Mr. Gordley served his country in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959.
He was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon. Jerry was also a member of the Chambersburg Sportsmans Club and a proud Chambersburg chicken plucker. He always enjoyed fishing, coaching his sons baseball teams and he also loved attending his family's many activities.
Survivors include his wife Louise Gordley of Chambersburg, Illinois. 2 children Jeris Callarman (Ronald) of Cantrall, Illinois and Jeff Gordley (Leslie) of Lake St. Louis, Missouri. A daughter-in-law Lisa Gordley of Hannibal, Missouri. 6 grandchildren Chris Callarman, Alaina Whelan (Kaleb) and Kaitlyn, Brock, Sara and Sam Gordley. 1 sister Betty Perry of Wisconsin also survives along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Greg Gordley and 3 brothers James, William and Robert Gordley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2022 at the Chambersburg Christian Church in Chambersburg, Illinois with Pastor Nate Walters officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hume Cemetery north of Chambersburg. A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Chambersburg Christian Church or the Hume Cemetery.
