Harry Ashbaker

Harry Lee Ashbaker, age 82, of Golden, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away  at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Illinois. 

He was born June 16, 1940 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Melvin “Bunny” and Fairy Edna Roberts Ashbaker.  He married Ellen Rose Rigg on May 17, 1962 at the Naval Base Airstation in Pensacola, Florida and she preceded him in death on February 3, 2021.  

Harry worked at Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown for several years, as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Brown County Ambulance Service and retired from the Jacksonville Developmental Center. 

He graduated from Brown County High School.

Mr. Ashbaker served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1966. 

Harry was of the Christian faith and always enjoyed woodworking.  He was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Brown County EMT Association. 

Survivors include 3 children Tom Ashbaker (Stacy) of West Plains, Missouri, Dawn Clark and Heather Miller (Bob) all of Golden, Illinois.  6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survives along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Fred Ashbaker and 2 sisters Genevieve Metz and Marjorie June Ashbaker. 

Cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2022 in the Mounds Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois with Pastor Larry Flint officiating.  Military honors will be conducted at the graveside.  

There will be no visitation. 

Memorials are suggested to the Golden Good Shepherd Home and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, Illinois 62353.
