Janet Smith Obituary

 

Janet Lea Smith, age 76, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 8:54 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. 

She was born September 14, 1944 in Beardstown, Illinois the daughter of Loren A. “Slippey” and Margaret Marie Burnett Behymer.  She married Glen Roger Smith on December 11, 1960 in Versailles, Illinois and he preceded her in death on October 12, 1999.  

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and had also worked at Hertzberg Perma Bound New Method Book Bindery in Jacksonville, Illinois for 17 years.  Janet had also worked at Dollar General and Flynn’s Market both in Mt. Sterling for several years.  

She attended Brown County Schools and always enjoyed solving puzzles, crocheting and traveling with her son.  

Survivors include 1 son Gale Smith of Versailles, Illinois.  1 sister Nancy Lenover (Ed) of Versailles, Illinois.  2 nieces Janet Rigg (Rick) of Clayton, Illinois and Rhonda Frank of Rushville, Illinois also survive along with 3 great nephews Marcus, Travis and Levi.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers Sonny, Bill, John, Thomas and Stanley Behymer and 2 sisters Shirley DeCremer and Dorothy Behymer. 

Cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 in the Marden Chapel Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling with Rick and Travis Rigg officiating. 

There will be no visitation. 

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer and many be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, Illinois 62353.
