Kenneth Lee Welty, age 78, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and formerly of Golden, Illinois passed away at 4:03 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born August 11, 1943 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Orville B. and Mayme Irene Finch Welty. He married Justine D. Long on February 25, 1962 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling and she survives.
Mr. Welty worked as a truck driver for several area companies including Chem Gro in Bowen and Welty Trucking in Mt. Sterling and earlier in life he was engaged in farming.
He graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1961 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling. Kenny enjoyed spending time outdoors where he liked hunting and cutting wood. He simply loved staying busy and was also known to make the best ice cream.
Survivors include his wife Justine Welty of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 3 children Lisa Taylor (Jim) of Oakford, Illinois, Sheila Thompson of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Kevin Welty (Karen) of Washington, Illinois. 2 brothers Everett Welty and Gary Welty (Barb) all of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 8 grandchildren Kendra Swander (Eric), Troy Thompson (Laurel), Jeremy Prenger (Misty), Margot Wallace (Jesse), Ryan Taylor, Aleigha Shirk, Laura Hopper and Kelsey Taylor. 13 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews including Arn Schriefer and his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Brian Thompson and a brother Orville Ray Welty.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Charla Meyers and Pastor Angel Rosales officiating. Burial will follow in the Becam Cemetery in Brown County.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
