Mildred Louise “Milly” Geisler, age 94 of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Bickford of Macomb.
She was born September 13, 1926 in Schuyler County, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Hattie Spates Downs. She attended rural schools and was a graduate of Rushville High School and Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois. She worked as a private secretary until her marriage to Cletus A. Geisler on January 31, 1948. She assisted her husband as a farm wife and mother to three sons and one daughter for many years. Cletus died on September 4, 2004.
Milly was known for her volunteer work and devoted many hours to her church, St. Mary School, The American Heart Association, The Twentieth Century Club and the Brown County Historical Society. She also volunteered as a secretarial assistant at Blessing Hospital every Wednesday for 24 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Brown County Historical Society and the Brown County Senior Citizens.
She is survived by four children Steven Geisler of Phoenix, Arizona, Jim Geisler (Denise) of Bloomington, Illinois, Marsha Schoeneman (Mark) of Sunrise Beach, Missouri and Mark Geisler (Nicky) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. One sister, Jeannie McFeeters of Quincy, Illinois. Nine grandchildren Paul Geisler, Laura Venzor, Jennifer Stokes, Brian Geisler, Jerad Geisler, Jocelyn Holzmacher, Jenny Bushman, Jacob Geisler and Mackenzie Baker also survive along with eighteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters, two half-brothers and one half-sister.
A private funeral service will be held with only family members in attendance. Friends are invited to watch the services streaming live on the funeral home website at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
