Charles Raymond Bradbury, age 95, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 8:27 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2020 at the home of his daughter near Versailles, Illinois.
He was born July 20, 1925 in Versailles, Illinois the son of Charles Brock and Grace Meyer Bradbury. He married Sylvan Irene Kleinlein on November 4, 1945 at the Mt. Sterling Christian Church parsonage and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2010.
Mr. Bradbury owned and operated Bradbury Plumbing and Heating in Versailles for several years and after his retirement, Raymond truly enjoyed helping his friend Bud Kleinlein with his farming operation.
He attended Hambaugh School near Versailles, Illinois and graduated from Versailles High School.
Mr. Bradbury was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the United States Army.
He was a member of the Versailles Christian Church and was also a charter member of the Rolling Greens Golf Club in Mt. Sterling. Raymond always enjoyed playing golf, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include 2 daughters Gayle Gallagher (Dale) of Versailles and Leigh Ann Buss (Rod) of Mt. Sterling. 9 grandchildren Jon Koch (Glynda), Heidi Welty (Les), Erica Markert, Brock Buss (Kayla), Kristen Ruble (Cole), Carrie Cox (Joe), Anita Read (Mark), Sarah Gallagher and Danielle Hea (Joe). 12 great grandchildren Michael, Cody, Lyric, Paige, Tristin, Anakin, Abram, Wade, Sadie, Blake, Oliver and Evan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson Derrick Buss and 1 brother Roscoe Bradbury.
We know that Raymond deserves a beautiful tribute and understand that under normal circumstances many friends would love to attend. But sadly due to the current health situation and under the direction of the local health department, the services are to be conducted with only immediate family members in attendance.
Friends are encouraged to watch Raymond’s services streaming live at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020 on the funeral home website at hendrickerfuneralhome.com.
Burial will follow in the Versailles West Side Cemetery. Military services will be conducted at the graveside by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army of Quincy, Illinois - Emergency Shelter and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
We also encourage the community to leave a condolence or remembrance on the website for the family.
There will be no visitation.
