Ronald Rolland Hess, age 76, of rural Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 7:05 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2020 at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois.
He was born June 25, 1944 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Cecil H. and Grace Leona Kerr Hess. He married Erma Brush Swanson on December 31, 1992 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. Hess was a lifelong Brown County farmer and had also worked for the Brown County Highway Department for several years and then served as the Missouri Township Road Commissioner for over 23 years.
He attended Brown County schools and was of the christian faith.
Ronnie always enjoyed horseback riding, trail riding, attending farm auctions and livestock sales.
Survivors include his wife Erma Hess of Mt. Sterling. 2 step daughters Jeanna Long (David) of Bushnell, Illinois and Terrie Swanson of Macomb, Illinois. 4 grandchildren Kayleigh Jump, Satasha Havens, David A. Long and Brixton Call. 7 great grandchildren Charity, Christian, Faith, Eli, Brett, Ember and Harley also survive along with several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Patches.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Cecil Allen Hess in infancy and Eugene Kerr.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2020 in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery with Rev. Matt Haberman officiating. A recording of the service will be available for viewing on Wednesday afternoon on the funeral home website.
There will be an informal visitation without the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. Social distancing guidelines will be observed with no more than 10 people allowed in the funeral home at one time.
Memorials are suggested to the Brown County Ambulance Service.
