Rose Newell Cooper, age 103, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.
She was born August 23, 1917 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Albert Franklin and Laura Louise Diebold Moulton. She married Eli Newell on December 1, 1933 in Beardstown, Illinois and he preceded her in death in 1967. She later married Jimmie Cooper on April 29, 1974 in Jacksonville, Illinois and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2004.
Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and had also worked at Bound To Stay Bound in Jacksonville, Illinois and Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois for several years.
She attended Beard School in Beardstown, Illinois. Rose had attended Mt. Zion Church, LaGrange Chapel and Benville Union Church all in Brown County. She was a charter member of Versailles Genealogical and Historical Society. Rose was a true nature lover who always enjoyed walking over their farm and especially loved hunting for mushrooms.
Survivors include 2 children Laura Simmons of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Warren Newell (Dr. Teryle Wilder) of Parkville, MIssouri. 1 sister Georgia McFadden of Loveland, Colorado. 6 grandchildren Russell Garwood (Tawny Nelson), Kathy Stambaugh, Jeff Garwood (Susan), Steve Newell, Aaron Newell (Julie) and Stephanie Goens. 24 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers Robert and Richard Moulton, 3 sisters Alberta Fisher, Mayme Montgomery and Viola Moulton and 1 great grandson James Garwood.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 in the Versailles West Side Cemetery with her daughter, Pastor Laura Simmons officiating.
An informal visitation, without the family present, will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to the LaGrange Chapel or Benville Union Church.
