Russell Wayne Shepherd

Russell Wayne Shepherd, age 86, of Timewell, Illinois passed away at 5:46 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. 

He was born July 16, 1936 near Clayton, Illinois the son of Russell Wayne and Kathryn Kauffman Shepherd.  He married Patricia Ann Berry on May 27, 1961 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2017.  

Mr. Shepherd worked for Hollembeak Concrete in Mt. Sterling and Camp Point and then worked for Pea Ridge Township for 26 years, serving as Road Commissioner for 16 years.  

He attended Brown County schools and graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1954.  

Mr. Shepherd then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era.  

Wayne was a member of the Poe Baptist Church in Brown County. 

Survivors include 2 children Jill Wickert of Littleton, Illinois and Jim Shepherd of Deer Creek, Illinois.  1 grandson Jared Remington Shepherd of Deer Creek, Illinois also survives. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sons William Russell and John Charles in infancy, a son-in-law David Wickert and a brother Robert Shepherd. 

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in the Mounds Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois with Rev. Richard Young officiating.  A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. 

There will be no visitation. 

Memorials are suggested to the Schuyler County Jail Museum and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, Illinois 62353.
