Shirley Dean Sides Moore, age 102, of Timewell, Illinois passed away at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Mt. Sterling Health and Rehab Center.
She was born November 30, 1921 in Versailles, Illinois the oldest child of Lewis Wayne and Mary Lucinda Davis Sides.
She married Richard Lee Moore on November 30, 1939 in the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Illinois and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2004.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker. Earlier in life Shirley along with her husband owned and operated Moore Apple Orchard in Timewell, Illinois and she also served as a Director of the Timewell State Bank for several years.
Shirley graduated from Versailles High School with the class of 1939.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 13 and was a member of the Timewell Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on the missionary society.
Mrs. Moore was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, having served as past matron, the Timewell Home Extension, the Illinois AI Chapter of T.T.T., the Versailles Genealogical and Historical Society, and had served as a 4-H Leader and den mother for several years. Shirley enjoyed sewing, reading and traveling with her husband and family. She especially loved spending the winter months in Florida and family fishing trips to Minnesota. Shirley's greatest joy was spending time with her family and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities.
Survivors include two children David Wayne Moore (Carolyn) and Cinda Lu Flynn (Steven) all of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. One daughter-in-law Virginia Moore of Timewell, Illinois. Eight grandchildren Tim Moore (Terry), Tom Moore, Melissa Klein (Kevin), Benjamin Moore, Daniel Moore (Chris), Jeremy Flynn (Jessica), Joshua Flynn (Barbara) and Alissa Stults (Jordan). Twenty one great grandchildren Lisa, Caitlyn (Adam), Brianna, Gabrielle, Emma (Howard), Harper, Jackson, Oliver, Samuel, Lilah, Izabella, Katey, Klare, Connor, Grace, Reese, Mia, Elyse, Griffin, Alexis and Everett. Four great great grandchildren also survive along with a sister-in-law Rosa Sides of Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Larry Lee Moore and three brothers Robert, Graydon and Stanley Sides.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Dale Gadberry officiating.
Burial will follow in the Clayton South Side Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Timewell Baptist Church, Brown County Library Building Fund or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
