William Dennis “Bill” O’Sullivan, age 75, of Mt.Sterling, Illinois went to be at peace with Jesus at 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois after a long illness.
He was born March 24, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Patrick James and Agnes Margaret Laverty O’Sullivan. He married Ann Robichaud on August 21, 1971 at the Newman Center at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. O’Sullivan worked in the Department of Corrections for 30 years, the last 10 years as the first warden at Western Illinois Correctional Center, and retired in 1999. He then served as an auditor for the American Corrections Association and later worked as a quality assurance coordinator for the Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois.
Bill graduated from Leo High School in Chicago, Illinois and also graduated from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois.
Mr. O’Sullivan was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1281 and the Illinois Sheriffs Association.
Survivors include his wife Ann O’Sullivan of Mt. Sterling. 1 daughter Colleen (Mat) Loehr of Versailles, Illinois. 2 granddaughters Melanie and Jamie. 1 brother Jerry O’Sullivan of Frankfort, Illinois. 1 sister-in-law of Judy O’Sullivan of Orland Park, Illinois also survives along with many cousins, nieces and nephews,
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Bob O’Sullivan and 1 sister-in-law Donna O’Sullivan.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Aaron Kuhn and Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. A remembrance service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Cremation will be accorded following the funeral mass on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church, Illinois Nurses Foundation, or Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences Scholarship Fund.
